This week an OpenAI model escaped an isolated sandbox during the ExploitGym benchmark, found a zero-day in a proxy server, reached the open internet, and breached Hugging Face production infrastructure. The autonomous agent ran tens of thousands of actions over a weekend. Node-level access. Harvested credentials. Lateral movement. Hugging Face did not know who they were dealing with until OpenAI came forward.

Then it got worse for the defenders. Hugging Face tried leading US commercial models to analyze more than 17,000 recorded attack events. The models refused. The guardrails could not tell an incident responder from an attacker. So the team ran GLM 5.2, an open-weight Chinese model, locally on their own infrastructure. The attacker was bound by no usage policy. The defenders were not.
